Didn't get a ride here, this is not the main highway and a lot of cars are going to their villages. While we were walking towards the toll road a car stopped and bringed us 60km north from there. To arrive here we took a Train and then walked 3km

Very wide road, a lot of people go to Athens, especially on Sunday. Plenty of space for cars to stop. You're visible from the far. A greek took me to Kifisia in Athens, nice ride.

It's a difficult place for cars to stop, but there is a traffic light and a little space at the side to stop quickly. A Greek took me from there to Chalkida and we even went for lunch and swimming. Lucky day 🙌🏻

Plenty of space for cars to stop, traffic light and quite some traffic. Got a quick ride up the road and got out next to the BP gas station along the highway. Big hole in the fence (can't miss it) so easy to enter station.

Waited a minute to get a ride up the road parallel the A1 near Afidnes.

Took quite some time to get here from Athens by public transport, but worth the hassle.

I think this is the best place to start HH if you are heading north from Athens

ps: bus 508 does not operate anymore, take 509 from kifisia and stop "neo terma" from there you can take a short ride until the first tools or walk (5km away)

After trying many different spots to get out of athens, i conclude that this is the best one to go north.
From metro kifisia, take bus 508 go down to the terminus, and walk to the side road of Athens Thessaloniki (here).
From here you can get any short ride to the next gas station 7km away.

One of the best spot to go to Thessaloniki from Athens. Got a ride in 15minutes but it is illegal to hitchhike there

Good spot for hitchhiking right at the toll station. Not easy to get there. You have to take a bus 509 from Kifissia to Nea Therma and then walk 3km to the station. The whole journey there takes around 2 hours.

Not a good spot, toll station is fenced in and there is a Police station right by it. Better to try on the side road next to it at the Garden store. Plenty of space for cars to stop. They won’t be taking you very far however.

Good spot with enough place to stop. I stood after the toll station a bit away from the police station and when the cops asked me I said I was waiting for a friend. Also busses pass for Plan B. The gate at the fence should be open.

Many cars passing by, nobody stopped for hours. One guy stopped and wanted to give me 50€ for the bus. Then a local guy who saw me 1,5h earlier stopped and took me even though he didn't even needed to go my direction. Friendly people in Greece but they just don't get the concept of hitchhiking.

It may be the best spot to get out of Athènes, but don't expect to find somebody right away. I wanted for 5 hours there. Finally got a ride to Thessaloniki.

This is by far the best spot to go north. NEVER go on a ride that goes not as far as Lamia a so many people go farther away. I was standing here for 40 min, was lucky enough to get a 1,400 km ride to Austria. The spot of 509 bus stop 3 km from here is pure s**t compare to this stop. Just stand there and ask drivers to drop you here, it's so worth the effort.
